3rd Africa Fashion and Art Festival
I had a fun filled fashionista evening a couple of weeks ago (on Nov 10th) darlings! I have been involved with the AFAF for the past 2 years. Last year I organised an Art Exhibition which ran concurrently with the Fashion Shows. This year I decided to paint the portraits of the 2 main organisers, Lorraine and Victoria, as a tribute to their hard work and dedication to fashion and art in Malawi. And also, I must admit, to show that I don’t just do abstract paintings!

I also organised a catwalk show of designers from Abantu Emporium, the shop here in Lilongwe which showcases and sells local art, craft, fashion, jewellery, furniture and home textiles. I helped set it all up and I’m still involved, but no longer on a day to day basis – just for fun events like this one. Which do take a surprising amount of time and energy to put together.

The Fashion show didn’t just have designers from Malawi, there were also designers from all over Africa. There is an amazing amount of talent here and the clothes and jewellery are gorgeous and I hope the rest of the world sits up and takes notice soon!

Now it’s back to creating and painting, which is a different kind of fun. I’m hoping to have some new work done in the not too distant future.
