This painting was inspired by a place I know very well, the highest mountain in Britain, Ben Nevis. When I first moved to Fort William, the town near the base of the mountain, I worked as an Outdoor Instructor for Outward Bound and as such lead many a group up this mountain (or ‘hill’ as they are known in Scotland!). I have walked up the ‘Pony Track’ and climbed on the North Face and always found the experience exhilarating. This particular image was brought to mind by the ‘zig zags’ the path makes in one section, in between Red Burn and Maclean’s Steep. I have used only black and white as the Ben is often covered in snow and that’s my overriding memory – snow, sleet, white mist, black rocks in the rain.

This painting was bought by a lovely lady in Lilongwe, who then went on to commission a large work from me.
